Media aide to Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari, Femi Adesina, has said Buhari will embark on 11-day private visit to the United Kingdom from Thursday.

The health status of the Nigerian President has been an issue since his assumption of office in May 2015. He has been off and on the UK hospital.

The statement read: “Further to the official visit by President Muhammadu Buhari to Lagos Wednesday where he commissioned a number of projects executed by the State Government, the President is scheduled to depart for Maiduguri, the Borno State capital for another official visit Thursday.

He is expected to commission developmental projects especially in the sectors of education, healthcare and roads.

At the end of the visit, President Buhari will be proceeding to the United Kingdom on a private visit. He is expected to return to Nigeria on May 5, 2019”

Buhari, 75, spent much of 2017 in London receiving treatment for an undisclosed ailment.

In August 2018, Muhammadu Buhari will begin another 10-day holidays to the United Kingdom starting from Friday, August 3rd

In 2018, the Presidency in a statement said that in compliance with Section 145 (1) of the 1999 Constitution, a letter has been transmitted to the President of the Senate, and the Speaker, House of Representatives to that effect.

But there is no comment on the transmission of power to the VP in this instance.  There is no further revelation as to the reason for the sudden decision to take a break. But there are speculations that Buhari may be keeping a date with his doctors in London over his health status. Buhari went to see his doctor was in May 8th, 2018.
