Cameroon’s Paul Biya @85 seeks re-election
Many Cameroonians on the social media already believe that President Paul Biya’s declaration of interest in the coming election presidential election, October 7th, means his re-election. That means that the 85year-old ruler would, all things being equal extend his rule to 35 years in power.
Biya tweeted in French and in English: “I am willing to respond positively to your overwhelming calls. I will stand as your candidate in the upcoming presidential election.”
He has been in power since 1982, making him one of Africa’s longest-serving leaders.
Cameroon has been in turmoil orchestrated by separatist group of the Anglo-phone Southern Cameroon who allege oppression by Younde.
There are evidences of torture and death meted-out on the secessionist group.
