Facebook Unveils Business Hub in Nigeria
Social media giant, Facebook will early next year, unveil its business hub in Lagos, Nigeria. Called, ‘NG-hub from Facebook’, it will help already social media savvy Nigerians grow technology-wise and will also serve as a connecting point for the organisation’s operations in Nigeria. This will impart the country’s economy.
Facebook’s Head of Platform Partnerships, Middle East and Africa, Mr Emeka Afigbo, made this known during a news conference on Wednesday in Lagos. He said that Facebook would open the hub in collaboration with CoCreation Hub.
“The hubs will function as learning centres for local communities, providing multiple opportunities for training.
“Nigeria is producing a new generation of exciting start-ups that have incredible potential. “We understand the important role Facebook plays here in Nigeria with developers and start-ups,” he said.
Afigbo said that the media giant had passion for nurturing technology and start-up communities. According to him, NG_Hub was informed by the creativity and entrepreneurship spirit in Nigeria.
“Facebook needs a driving ecosystem in every community so as to keep its mission running. “I am excited to announce our partnership with the Nigerian tech hub ecosystem to create the NG_HUB space here in Lagos,” he said.
The company which was founded in 2004 and already has an average of1.37 billion daily active users worldwide and 7.2 million daily visitors from Nigeria.
Mark Elliot Zuckerberg, born May 14, 1984 is the founder of Facebook. He is an American computer programmer and Internet entrepreneur. He currently operates as its chairman and chief executive officer. His net worth is estimated to be US $74.2 billion as of November 2017, and in 2016 was ranked by Forbes as the fifth richest person in the world.
Zuckerberg launched Facebook from his Harvard University dormitory room on February 4, 2004. He was assisted by his college roommates and fellow Harvard students Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz, and Chris Hughes.
