Nigeria 2019: Huge political re-alignment expected in coming days

Political intrigue and chess-play is already high in the country. Discover Africa News reliably gathered that huge political re-alignment is expected in Nigeria in coming days.

Our source who is close to the former Presidential aspirant who is also throwing his hat into the rings in the coming presidential election said “the game has been on. We do not have to making noise about it”.

The source said some major power brokers from across political parties are “coming together to see how to rescue Nigeria from the APC and Buhari”.

Earlier on Monday, Chief of Staff to Senate President Bukola Saraki, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC). Although Saraki, who is rumoured to be currently unsettled in the ruling party, has not publicly declared his political future with APC, there are speculations that Saraki may not last long in the ruling party. You may recall that at the APC Convention recently where Adams Oshiomole was elected APC Chairman, Saraki said that it is time that will determine his stay in the party.

Expectedly, Mr Ahmed who was appointed by Mr Saraki in 2017 said his decision has nothing to do with the Senate President.

Ahmed belonged to the Akida faction of APC in Kaduna where senator, Shehu Sani, also is a member. Mr Sani has also threatened to leave the APC.

He explained that he was not leaving APC to join another party but believes the ruling party has under performed.

“This statement is to inform the public of my resignation from APC. I have sent a formal letter to this effect to chairman of my ward.

“This has been a very difficult decision, to leave a party I helped to form and made my humble contributions to put in power.

“After three years, however, I need to say that the APC has grossly under-performed and has forfeited any claim to my loyalty and continue membership.

“I do not believe in all concience, that it should be trusted and encouraged to continue to govern our great country beyond 2019.

“I am not leaving to join another party. This is my decision and mine alone . It has nothing to do with the president of the senate Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki.

“It’s a decision taken after due consultations with Akida Group, a group that has predated my appointment as chief of staff to the President of the Senate.

“I will remain active in politics, as this is the main avenue for salvaging our nation from rising insecurity, poverty and bitter divisions,” he said.

Another source, a member of the staunch member of the APC in the Nigeria’s South-East said that the recent APC Convention was the last straw that aggrieved members have been waiting for.

“We know what the Convention would likely be. So, we are waiting for the convention to come and go. Then we take our own decision”, he said.

Our correspondent gathered that former President Olusegun Obasanjo is not stopping on anything to see that Buhari is not returned in 2019.

However, the APC scheming is high too with the new Chairman, Oshiomole brooding on reconciliation with old hawks within the conglomeration that formed the APC.

How the entire political theatre will play out is best left for time. The Nigerian masses, as usual, would dance to the tune of the stronger alliance.
