Nigeria on COVID 3rd Wave, records 747 cases, highest in six months
Figures from the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) show that the West African country recorded 747 COVID-19 infections in the last 24 hours. This is the highest infection figure recorded by the country in the last six months.
Reports say just around 1% of Nigeria’s population of around 200 million has been vaccinated so far after some 4 million doses of AstraZeneca Vaccine were administered in the country.
Officials say the county is beginning to experience a third wave of the pandemic largely driven by the more contagious Delta variant.
This is happening amid low vaccination rates and a strike by doctors in public hospitals.
The government also placed at least six states on the red list over a possible surge.

The country has recorded more than 176,000 cases of the virus with more than 2,000 deaths since the start of the pandemic last year.
