Nigeria gets new ministers today, three months into new govt.
Three months after the inauguration of the new government of president Muhammadu Buhari, a new crop of cabinet members are being inaugurated today.
They are 43 in number. Some old ministers who served the administration from inception in 2015 have also been returned in addition to some of them who are entirely new.
An orientation course for the ministers ended yesterday with Buhari instructing the cabinet members never to approach him personally for any meeting rather, they have to go through his Chief of Staff, Malam Abba Kyari, Buhari’s Kinsman.
The portfolios of the ministers will be made public during the inauguration.
Buhari’s campaign spokesman in the 2019 election, Festus Keyamo is one of the Ministers. Keyamo, a top lawyer in Nigeria played into the muds to deliver his candidate against all odds.
The president appointed a total of 43 ministers from the 36 states and Abuja.
Among the appointees are former Akwa Ibom State governor, Godswill Akpabio, senior lawyer Festus Keyamo, ex-Benue governor George Akume and 40 other nominees.
The president also retained Babatunde Fashola, Chris Ngige and a few other returnee ministers.
The appointments were made across the six geopolitical zones.
The Senate President noted that screening of the ministerial nominees will commence on Wednesday and “legislative activities will take the back stage.”
President Muhammadu Buhari was sworn-in for a second term on May 29 after winning re-election in February.
The constitution of his cabinet comes almost three months after his swearing-in.
