Nigerian Top Military Facility Confirms Attack by Local Gunmen
A high-profile military academy in Kaduna Nigeria, the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) was earlier in the day attacked by local gunmen nicknamed bandits. Reports say two military personnel were killed while four were abducted.
The Academy which is a training ground for Nigerian military has confirmed that two personnel were killed when bandits attacked the barracks on Tuesday.
A statement by the Academy Public Relations Officer, Major Bashir Jajira, said an officer was abducted by the bandits.
“The security architecture of the Nigerian Defence Academy was compromised early this morning by unknown gunmen who gained access into the residential area within the Academy in Afaka. During the unfortunate incident, we lost two personnel and one was abducted.
“The Academy in collaboration with the 1Division Nigerian Army and Air Training Command as well as other security agencies in Kaduna state has since commenced pursuit of the unknown gunmen within the general area with a view to tracking them and rescuing the abducted personnel.
“The NDA community and Cadets are safe in the Academy. We assure the general public that these unknown gunmen would soon be apprehended and the abducted personnel rescued.
Activities of bandits in Nigeria has grown worse in the recent months. Last week, the bandits ambushed and killed about 23 travellers in Jos city, Plateau State, North Central Nigeria.
