Kenya: Opposition Parties’ Resistance Movement Gathering Steam

The National Super Alliance (NASA) and other opposition elements sympathetic of Raila Odinga have formed a resistance moment against the government of Uhuru Kenyatta.

The movement, National Resistance Movement (NRM) is pressing Kenyans to cut patronage of goods and services that are loyal to the ruling Jubilee Party.

Local sources said the resistance movement is already gathering steam as influential individuals in Kenya, like former Nairobi governor aspirant Miguna Miguna have joined or thrown their weight on it.

“Panic grips the centres of power after Raila kept his promise to tell his supporters to boycott certain products”, A Kenyan news station, @TheStarkenya, tweeted.

The resistance movement is saying that President Uhuru Kenyatta did not win the October 26 repeat presidential election.

“The exercise on October 26 was not an election it was a selection. Uhuru did not win the elections,” Miguna said.

Taking to twitter on Friday, Miguna announced his decision to join the resistance movement.

Miguna who was accompanied by Siaya Senator James Orengo said that they will not relent in their push to have Kenyans boycott products and services from select certain companies and corporates perceived to be  in support of the Jubilee administration.

“We are glad to announce that we officially launched the NRM and we will continue telling Kenyans to boycott Bidco, Safaricom and Brookside products,” Orengo said.

On his part, Orengo said that the movement will table a motion of resistance in every county assembly to resist the re-election of President Kenyatta.

“As you know article one of the constitution states that any government formed against the law is not legitimate. We must salvage Kenyans from Jubilee,” Orengo said.

Orengo further added that NRM together with the newly formed People’s Assembly will resume the countrywide demonstrations next week.

The Independent Electoral and Boundary Commission (IEBC) declared Kenyatta the winner of the October 26th election which was boycotted by Raila Odinga.

Kenyatta won the election in a landslide of 98 percent of votes cast after supporters of Odinga obeyed him and stayed away from the election.
