What Does Raila Odinga Plan for Dec, 12th?

After his efforts to stop the swearing in of President Uhuru Kenyatta failed, Kenya’s chief political opponent and scion of the country’s first Vice President, Raila Odinga, may be planning his inauguration come December 12th.

His supporters had pressed him to accept a parallel inauguration same day Kenyatta was being sworn in, but Odinga declined, preferring a later date.

The opposition leader had opposed Kenyatta’s election and subsequent inauguration, calling them shams.

Local reports say Odinga dispatched invitation cards on Friday for his December swearing-in, a move that has elicited mixed reactions.

“Some mocked the former Prime Minister saying the inauguration will be a comedy event where controversial African leaders will attend.

“A Comedy event is slated to take place in Kenya on 12th December, 2017….Notable attendees will be International Superstars: Besigye, Joseph Kony, Morgan Tsvangirai …Come one Come all,” Patrick Edwin Mathenge posted on Facebook. Others lauded Raila indicating that he was the father of democracy in Kenya and other leaders should emulate him.

The Opposition chief sent out invitations to his swearing in scheduled to take place on Jamhuri Day”, A local source, Standard Digital said.

The invitation posted on NASA’s Telegram channel on Friday, stated the swearing in would take place on December 12, 2017.

The venue of the inauguration, however, was not been disclosed.

It also indicated guests would also be vetted before gracing the controversial ceremony.

The Judiciary also stated on Friday that it had not received any formal communication from the National Super Alliance (NASA) about the inauguration.

“The Judiciary has not been notified on the inauguration ceremony planned by the Opposition party,” said Chief Registrar of the Judiciary Anne Amadi.

Ms Amadi spoke at Pride Inn Hotel.
