Russia, Egypt tie military cooperation, sign $ 2 billion contract for fighter jets

Russia has signed a $ 2 billion contract to supply more than 20 Su-35 combat aircraft to Egypt, local media reports.

Russia has become one of Egypt’s leading arms suppliers, with Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi forming cementing brotherly ties with President Vladimir Putin. The announced arms deal comes at a time of growing pressure from the United States on several countries around the world to not buy weapons made in Russia.

The order was made in late 2018 and the delivery of the aircraft, as well as weapons intended for the aircrafts, will begin sometime between 2020-2021.
