Implementing 2014 confab report could have solved Nigeria’s huge problems—Odumakin

One of the delegates to Nigeria’s Constitutional Reform Conference in 2014, Yinka Odumakin, has said Nigeria’s huge socio-political, cultural and economic problems could have been solved by implementation of a fraction of the 2014 confab report.

Odumakin spoke on Tuesday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State at an event to mark the 70th birthday of Peter Odili, a former Governor of the State.

Odumakin who is one of the 492 delegates who spent five months at the National Judicial Institute Abuja and produced the 898 draft final report, drawn from reports of the twenty committees set up during the conference said had a 50 percent of the report implemented by President Muhammadu Buhari administration, Nigeria could have been better for it.

He encouraged Nigerians from all parts of the country, who have the good of the country at heart to get together and engage in conversations that would change the Nigeria’s current narrative.

The delegates sifted and synthesize through documents at the national archives to arrive at their final draft. Such documents supplied the delegates by the Secretariat include: Report of the Constitutional Conference, 1995 (Containing the Draft Constitution) Vol 1; Report of the Constitutional Conference, 1995 (Containing the Resolutions and Recommendations) Vol 2; Report of the Political Bureau (March, 1987); Main Report of the National Political Reform Conference, 2005; Implementation Guide of the National Political Reform Conference, 2005; Report of the Presidential Committee on Review of Outstanding Issues from Recent Constitutional Conferences (Main Report) July 2012; and Report of the Presidential Committee on Review of Outstanding Issues from Recent Constitutional Conferences (Executive Summary) July 2012.
