PDP COMMUNIQUE FROM ASABA: ‘We strongly condemn the unabated killings across the country’

The Members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Working Committee (NWC) and it’s Governors’ Forum met in Asaba, Delta State on Sunday, 4th February, 2018 to examine the state of the nation.

The Communique issued by the party and signed by the National Chairman, Uche Secondus and Chairman, PDP Governor’s Forum and Governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose reads:

1. We strongly condemn the unabated killings across the country. We call on Mr. President to come out clean on the herdsmen killings and address the nation on how to end the carnage. The President must take responsibility on the protection of lives and property of Nigerians which is the most important of his responsibilities. We believe that the Federal Government’s decision to set up a Committee to address the issues of herdsmen killings is a pretentious approach to a matter that requires firm action and leadership by the President in line with his oath of office to protect all Nigerians irrespective of creed, tribe and political affiliation.

2. The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has been the author of restructuring and this was further expressed in the Report of the 2014 National Conference. The All Progressive Congress (APC) as a later day convert of restructuring is merely paying lip service to a matter of national importance. However, we have mandated our members in the National Assembly to immediately commence the process of initiating a Bill to address issues bothering on restructuring.

3. We urge Mr. President to henceforth direct the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to adhere to the Rule of Law by obeying Court judgements and orders such as the one involving the Ekiti State Government against EFCC and restrain itself from further political intimidation and harassment of known or perceived political opponents. We commend the judiciary for their commitment to the enthronement of constitutional democracy in the face of intimidation and harassment.

4. We condemn in strong terms the massive corruption going on in the management of fuel subsidy regime which the Federal Government had declared non-existent while billions of Naira are deducted monthly at Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC) meetings.

5. The PDP states and local governments are vehemently opposed to the unilateral withdrawal of USD1Billion from the Excess Crude Account by the Federal Government under any guise. We want to state unequivocally that neither the Governors’ Forum nor the Federal Executive Council has the power of appropriation of Federation Accounts, as such powers reside with the National and State Assemblies.

6. We commend members of our party for their unalloyed support. We reiterate that our repositioned party is prepared for the 2019 elections and will ensure that all Nigerians aspiring to elective offices are free to contest on the platform of the PDP. We want to assure that no established organ of the party is allowed to align with any presidential aspirant. We thank the people and government of Delta State for playing host to this all important meeting.

PDP Decries Harassment of Members, Demolition of Borno Office

PDP Decries Harassment of Members, Demolition of Borno Office

Main opposition party in Nigeria, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has alleged continued harassment of its members in the country by the ruling party. The party said the demotion of its Borno State office was the height of attempt by the government to muzzle opposition.

in a text of press conference released to the media Monday evening, the party alerted Nigerians and lovers of democracy all over the world of a “very dangerous design by APC interests, which is inimical to the survival of our hard-earned democracy and the stability of our nation”

The statement reads: “As we address you today, the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the desperation to cling to power has finally commenced its onslaught against our democratic order. The constitutionally guaranteed rights to freely associate is now under attack even as our nation is being pushed to the brinks.

Also we bring to the attention of the world, the various constitutional violations of the APC; her unrelenting persecution, arrests, detention and harried trial of opposition members as well as perceived opponents of government, including innocent business concerns, all in line with the grand plot to discredit and stifle opposition in Nigeria.

The APC, having realized that its chances of winning the 2019 elections get slimmer by the day and petrified by the popularity of the repositioned PDP across Nigeria, has now resorted to a vicious plot to physically attack our members and offices, as well as deploying force and orchestrated violence in an attempt to destabilize our structure across the country.

As you may be aware, on Sunday January 21, 2018, the APC unleashed terror on the PDP by sending its agents under the instructions of the Borno state governor, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, to demolish the PDP secretariat along Dandal Way in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital.

This horrendous, beastly and hateful act of desperation is a direct assault on our nation’s democracy, a gross effrontery against the provisions of the 1999 Constitution as amended, and further exposes the intensity of the fear and trepidation in the APC over the reawakened popularity of the PDP ahead of the 2019 elections.

It is already in the public domain that the APC government in Borno state, for fear of the increasing popularity of the PDP, had mounted pressure on the owner of the building to eject our party, but frustrated by the refusal of the landlord, the governor issued a revocation of the Certificate of Occupancy on the property and immediately instructed the agents of his government to demolish a house belonging to a citizen without any authorization of a court of competent jurisdiction.

We invite all lovers of democracy in Nigeria and across the world to note and collectively condemn this height of callousness from a government that vainly prides itself as the product of a progressive party.

Nigerians have not forgotten the political tension created by the APC in PDP strongholds in various states, including the recent attacks on our members, such as the attack on those holding a lawful meeting in Idanre, Ondo state.

Also, the increasing unwarranted attacks by APC controlled security forces on journalists, media houses and other well-meaning Nigerians carrying out their legitimate duties simply because they hold different opinions from those of APC interests speak volume of the desperation on the APC government.

We know that the APC is already suffering from a pre-election fever because of the failures of the President Mohammadu Buhari-led government for which they will face an inevitable defeat in 2019.

The unfortunate fact is that the APC is stuck with a demystified and poorly performed presidential candidate and is now afraid that the PDP is poised to present a more popular, nationally-oriented candidate who has compassion for the people and who also has the capacity and liberal-mindedness to urgently bring the nation out of the current APC inflicted national woes.

However, we want to inform the APC that they are fighting a lost battle. Let it be known to all that the PDP under this new leadership will never be cowed. This country belongs to all of us and we are fully rallied across board to call up our members to avail themselves of all provisions available in a democracy and within the law to defend our nation’s democracy.

While we have directed our Borno state chapter to immediately seek redress in the court of law, we shall explore all processes within a democracy to ensure that Governor Shetima rebuilds the house, and that his government is made to face the spirit and letters of the law.

The PDP wants peace but not at the expense of direct violation of the nation’s democratic tenets and principles, which we successfully nourished and nurtured in our 16 years in office.

While we charge our members to be at alert and continue to work with our leaders at all levels, we invite all Nigerians and the international community to note the developments in our land and stand in defence of democracy. The world must hold the APC responsible should there be any political violence in any part of the country at this critical time.

Nigeria: Cultural History Behind Aare Ona Kakanfo; PDP Congratulates Otunba Gani Adams

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has congratulated Otunba Gani Adams for his installation as the Aare Ona Kakanfo of the Yoruba race.

PDP National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, in a statement on Tuesday, said the choice of Otunba Adams for the position was a mark of the confidence reposed in him by the Yoruba race due to his contributions towards the protection and advancement of the rights of the masses.

The PDP urged the new Aare Ona Kakanfo to see his selection among 25 other candidates as an act of God and as such use the position to propagate and promote the unity and growth of the country, while defending the course of the down-trodden not only in Yoruba land but also across the nation.

The party said that the nation is in urgent need of healing and national integration and urged the Aare Ona Kakanfo to do all within the powers and influence of his new office to help to actualize such.

The PDP wished Otunba Adams well and prayed God to grant him the wisdom and strength to succeed in this very important office.

How Aare-Ona-Kakanfo title came to be

By Vanguard, Nigeria

THE creation of the title of Aare Ona Kakanfo was the direct consequence of the ideas of a former ruler of Old Oyo Empire, Alaafin Ajagbo, who reigned in the 1600s. His predecessors, from Ajaka, who succeeded Sango (the god of thunder), to Aganju, Kori, Oluaso, Onigbogi, Eguguojo, and Orompoto to Abipa and Obalokun, all suffered incessant attacks by neighbouring states.

Aare-Ona-Kakanfo Ajagbo had a twin brother, Ajampati, and like the Biblical Jacob and Esau, Ajagbo was an outdoorsman, while Ajampati preferred the comforts of the royal court. As a result, Ajagbo, as a prince was part of many military expeditions to fend off invaders, and grew up a warrior, all the while nurturing ideas on how best to deal with military aggression against his kingdom-state.

One of the direct results of his ideas when he became Alaafin was the creation of the office and title of Aare Ona Kakanfo, meaning Field Marshal, or Generalissimo of the Alaafin’s armies. He then appointed one of his close friends, Kokoro Gangan, described as a skilled tactician, from Iwoye as the first Kakanfo. Ajagbo is perhaps the longest reigning Alaafin in history; he was said to have reigned for over 140 years! After creating the Kakanfo title, he invested the holder the command of all his forces, outside Oyo town.

For the defence of the Alaafin and Oyo town and environs, Ajagbo created a metropolitan force which he placed under the command of the Bashorun That is not all; Ajagbo created ranks for soldiers in the Oyo Army. In all, he was said to have created no less than 70 ranks; 16 of which were, in Western military terms, principal staff officers and field commanders, while the remaining 54 were non-commissioned officers and other cadres. Ranks/titles of the field commanders include the Bashorun, Balogun, Jagun, Agba-Akin, Akogun, Olorogun, Oluogun, AareAgo, and many more. Mystiques of the Kakanfo aura.

The procedures and conventions instituted by Ajagbo and nurtured by succeeding Alaafins were probably responsible for the mystiques surrounding the office and title. At installation, the major rite that must be performed is the administering of two hundred and one (201) incisions on the Kakanfo-designate. The incision is called gbere, in Yoruba, chiefly tiny cuts made with a razor, from the forehead backwards to the waist.

Each of the 201 incisions is rubbed with 201 different herbal preparations expected to take the courage and bravery of the Kakanfo to super-human levels. After the incisions, the Kakanfo is “crowned” with a specially-made head-dress, that only him wears. It is, in Yoruba, called the Ojijiko. After installation, the Kakanfo leaves Oyo, the Alaafin’s city for his own domain; it is forbidden that the Kakanfo and the Alaafin live together in the same town. In addition, the Kakanfo is required to wage war against any peoples and territories at the behest of the Alaafin, and is expected to win, or return a corpse.

The circumstances of the deaths of some past Kakanfo probably reinforced the belief that there is a curse on the title; this may not be so. Of the 14 holders of the title so far, the first 12, from Kokoro Gangan of Iwoye to Momodu Obadoke Latoosa of Ibadan, were purely military commanders. Of these, three waged wars that impacted the history of the Yoruba people significantly.

These were Kurunmi of Ijaye, Afonja of Ilorin, and Obadoke Latoosa of Ibadan. The succeeding two, Samuel Ladoke Akintola and Moshood Kasimawo Olawale Abiola were civilians; the title had regressed to the honorary pedestal after the effects of colonisation, establishment of indirect rule, and the creation of western-style military institutions.

Akintola and Abiola Akintola was a victim of military incursion into politics; he was a target as Premier of the Western Region when the putschists of 1966 struck, just like other political leaders in other parts of the country.

Abiola’s case was significantly different in that he turned victim of a deathly power struggle whose ramifications were obscure to him.

Past holders of the title

1. Kokoro Gangan of Iwoye

 2. Oyapote of Iwoye

3. Oyabi of Ajase

4. Adeta of Jabata

5. Oku of Jabata

6. Afonja of Ilorin

7. Toyeje of Ogbomoso

8. Edun of Gbogun

9. Amepo of Abemo

10. Kurunmi of Ijaye

11.Ojo Aburumaku of Ogbomoso

12. Obadoke Latoosa of Ibadan

PDP Celebrates Victory in Taraba

PDP Celebrates Victory in Taraba

Nigeria’s main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has celebrated its victory in the Saturday’s Taraba State Assembly bye-election

The party congratulated Taraba state Governor Darius Ishaku and said it is ready for victory at the forthcoming House of Representative bye-election in Katsina state despite alleged plots by the APC to rig the poll.

PDP National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, in a statement on Tuesday said the party’s victory in the Taraba election is as a result of the outstanding performance of Governor Ishaku and the stance of the PDP as a people-oriented party.

The statement reads:

The victory of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in last Saturday’s Taraba state Assembly bye-election into Ardo-kola state constituency further affirms our party’s popularity among Nigerians in all parts of the country.

This victory, just as we witnessed in recent elections in Osun, Ekiti and Delta states where we also swept the polls, is as a result of the outstanding performance of Governor Ishaku in delivering democracy dividends to the people in line with the PDP manifesto.

Governor Ishaku’s giant strides in infrastructural development in addition to well-thought-out economic empowerment programs remain critical milestones no APC government at any level can offer, while underpinning the good governance bearing of the PDP.

The Taraba victory and PDP’s popularity in Katsina ahead of the Mashi/Dutsi federal constituency bye-election reinforces the acceptance of the PDP across the nation, the readiness of Nigerians to resurge the party at all levels and return the PDP to power at the center come 2019.

On Katsina, we are already aware of the pressure from certain presidency quarters on INEC to manipulate the process and rig the poll for the APC for obvious reasons, but such is already dead on arrival as the people are now with the PDP.

APC leaders from Katsina including those at the helm of affairs of the country know that they have failed their people. They know that their bandwagon of propaganda, lies and empty promises can no longer work, hence the attempt to compromise INEC.

Nevertheless, the PDP is coasting to victory as the people of Katsina are already rallied with us ahead of the poll.

We therefore caution INEC, and in very strong terms too, to note that Katsina is an original stronghold of the PDP.

The electoral body must therefore immediately reject all ploys of the ruling party to rig the election against the will of the people.

APC Can’t Go Back to the Electorates to Seek Votes, Says PDP

APC Can’t Go Back to the Electorates to Seek Votes, Says PDP

Main opposition party in Nigeria, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) has lost the courage to go back to the people and seek their votes following government’s inability to fulfil 2015 campaign promises.

In a statement today, the PDP said its sweeping victories in Ekiti and Delta States Local Government polls were indications that the APC has lost its hold on the people.

“The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) challenges the All Progressives Congress (APC) to immediately test its popularity among Nigerians by conducting free, fair and credible local council elections in states under its control.

“We all know that the APC is mortally afraid of going into any election, particularly at the grassroots, as Nigerians across board are bitter with them for their deceit and the wrecking of our once robust economy.

Nigerians are also at pains over the poor welfare direction of the ruling party which has resulted in the penetrating hardship now being suffered under the APC controlled Federal Government misrule.

The APC is petrified because Nigerians have renewed their interest in the PDP as the only genuine people-oriented party.

This new thinking among Nigerians has been clearly demonstrated with PDP’s sweeping victory in Osun senatorial bye election as well as the recent local council polls in Ekiti and Delta states.

Today, the APC knows it cannot go back to the same electorate it scammed in 2015 with lies and empty promises; promises of bogus jobs, monthly stipends, free meals, free houses, reduction of fuel price, bringing the dollar to the same value with the naira and other phantom promises.

The APC knows it cannot face the more than 8 million Nigerians it has rendered jobless with its reckless policies. They know that judgment awaits them from thousands of workers who were unjustly sacked in the states where APC governors rule, particularly Kogi and Kaduna.

The APC cannot also return to the states where countless helpless families’ breadwinners painfully paid the supreme price due to untold hardship under their misrule.

The party also knows it cannot return to the families of those slaughtered in Benue, Taraba, Adamawa, Borno and other parts of the country by marauders encouraged and emboldened by the indifference of the Federal Government and the unguarded comments from unpatriotic Presidential aides.

That is why instead of facing the people, APC governors, who are now scared stiff of the looming disgrace awaiting them, are busy running to Abuja for help, forgetting that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Presidency will also face an inevitable crushing defeat in 2019.

The fact is that Nigerians now know the difference between the anti-people, deceitful and inept APC and the democratic, development-driven PDP which, in its 16 years in power, led the nation to economic boom, cleared huge foreign debts, repositioned the banking sector, championed the telecoms revolution we all now enjoy, revamped the railways, built new universities, reformed the ports, facilitated unprecedented growth in small and medium enterprises and placed the nation as major global investment destination.

The landslide victories of the PDP in the recent elections are therefore incontrovertible response by the people not only to the achievements of our government in the states but also to the ideological disposition of the PDP as one genuine democratic platform where all Nigerians are free to socially express, politically aspire and economically flourish.

Our advice to the APC now is that they should stop deluding themselves with the electoral happenstance they earned by lies and propaganda in 2015 as Nigerians have now reconnected with their original political platform, the PDP, to move the nation forward come 2019.

DON’T GET FOOLED THE SECOND TIME, PDP TELLS NIGERIANS

DON’T GET FOOLED THE SECOND TIME, PDP TELLS NIGERIANS

Against the background of the All Progressive Congress (APC) political rally in Umuahia, Abia state today, the opposition party in Nigeria, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has warned Nigeria not to allow themselves to be fooled the second time by the ruling party.

The opposition party said APC-led Federal Government in Nigeria has not fulfilled any of its campaign promises leading to 2015 general election in the country.

“The APC mega rally held in Umuahia, Abia state capital, today, is the height of disdain, insensitivity and insult of the ruling party to the plight and predicaments of Nigerians under their misrule.

If anything, the ruling party was in Umuahia just to spit on the faces of suffering Nigerians as well as the graves of those that have died due to the hardship occasioned by the misgovernment of the APC in their nearly three years in office.

Nigerians were disheartened to see leaders of the ruling party dancing away and making vain speeches at a time when millions are still traumatized over killings in Benue and other parts of the country, while many more are groaning under the pains of economic hardship worsened by the unabating fuel crisis in the country.

If the APC had any iota of regard for Nigerians, it would, at this moment, be brainstorming on the many woes it has caused the nation and how to shore up the economy ruined by its tactless government.

The Umuahia rally has also shown that the APC leaders are not in any way interested in the welfare of Nigerians but in their selfish, political and pecuniary interests. This even manifested in their empty speeches wherein they could not present the people with any achievement or plans for future development.

Perhaps the APC would have learnt a lesson from the scanty turnout of Nigerians at their so called “mega rally.” The cold response by the few attendees, the refusal of the people to brandish brooms and the total absence of cheers for their leaders, including the National Chairman, Chief John Oyegun, constitute a loud act of rejection.

Again, we invite the APC to reflect on their failure to fulfill even the littlest of the promises they made to Nigerians in 2015. We urge Abians, and indeed, every Nigerian to take heed from the failed promises of the APC and refuse to be beguiled a second time”, the party said.

PDP Tasks INEC On Credible Polls In 2019, Berates APC

PDP Tasks INEC On Credible Polls In 2019, Berates APC

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) congratulates the Liberian President-elect, George Weah on his victory even as an opposition candidate in the keenly contested Presidential election.

The party also congratulates all Liberians for a peaceful and successful political transition, which is a firm and loud statement that democracy has taken firm roots not only in Liberia but also in the entire continent.

Equally commendable is the commitment of the Liberian National Electoral Commission for its internal reforms that paved the way for a credible election which outcome is in consonant with the wishes and aspirations of the citizens.

As a leader in the West African Sub-region, Nigeria, especially under the PDP played key roles in ensuring the political stability in Liberia and must continue to show direction by ensuring the consolidation of democratic practice and culture both at home and in other countries in the sub-region.

On that note, the PDP charges the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Mahmood Yakubu to ensure a credible 2019 general election by insulating the commission from external interferences, particularly from the ruling APC as well as weed out all compromised officials, who could be used by undemocratic forces to try to subvert the will of the people.

Finally, we urge Nigerians to join in strengthening our democratic practice through active participation in political education and mobilization to ensure an electoral process that will ultimately rescue the nation from the clutches of APC misrule.

Meanwhile, the PDP has berated the APC government over what it called failure to fulfil promises to the people, saying, Enough Of Lies And False Hope

The PDP on Friday advised the Federal Government and the All Progressives Congress (APC) not to issue any New Year message to Nigerians since they have not fulfilled any of the promises contained in their previous messages since assumption of office.

The party said Nigerians have become overstretched by the litany of woes visited on them in the last two years by the incompetent and pretentious APC Government, stressing that it would be the height of callousness for the party and its government to spew another round of propaganda and false hope in the name of new year messages.

“What else would they tell Nigerians apart from inventing new lies and propaganda as they had always done, particularly at the turn of each New Year”, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan queried in a statement.

Every New Year, since 2016, the APC and its Federal Government have been reeling out heaps of promises which they had no intentions to fulfill. Now they are warming up  to reel out fresh ones in January 2018.

What is the need of a New Year message from APC Government when it would be replete with propaganda?  What is the need of their yearly assurances when the only thing we see is an arrogant and incompetent government plunging the nation into economic recession and visiting the citizens with the worst forms of untold hardship.

What seriousness should any Nigerian attach to a government that takes governance for granted, puts off its Federal Executive Meeting at the slightest whims and blame imaginary invasion of its offices by rats for the inability to meet required statutory functions?

What else should Nigerians expect from a government that promised massive employments only to render 7.74 million Nigerians jobless between 2016 and September 2017; with combined unemployment and underemployment rate hitting 40.0% as declared by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

This is the same APC that promised to deliver naira exchange at N1 to 1USD but ended up wrecking the currency from N160-N170 to a scandalous N350-N400; the same party and its government promised to reduce the price of fuel only for it to rise from where the PDP left it at N86.50 to N300-N400 per litre.

What do we expect from a government that so devastated the economy in 2017 that Nigerians were forced to turn to Ponzi schemes like the Mavrodi Mundial Movement (MMM) for survival only for an estimated three million of them to lose about N18 billion in the process.

The APC misrule literarily turned 2017 into a harvest of woes; hunger, disease, violence and deaths while the nation is now being pummelled by ethnic and religious agitations and attendant violence in all parts of the country.

Also this year, marauders, criminal herders, Badoo cultists and insurgents were on the prowl with several innocent Nigerians as victims.

Nigerians suffered strange diseases; businesses were shut; hardship and poverty swelled mortality and divorce rates while the APC continues to thrive on propaganda and lies.

Measured against all key performance indicators, the APC controlled Federal Government has fallen below the expectations of Nigerians.

Painfully, instead of channeling the nation’s resources for the good of the citizens, the “zero corruption” Federal Government is busy providing cover for APC interests who are diverting public funds through padded budgets, multi-billion dollars secret oil subsidy regimes, illegal lifting of crude using unregistered APC fronts, pillaging of Nigeria’s foreign reserves, diverting of funds meant for fight against insurgency and rehabilitation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the northeast; and attempts to steal $1bn from the Excess Crude Account (ECA).

Nigerians are very patient people but are tired of APC’s incompetence, lies and endless propaganda.

We therefore urge the APC to stop taking Nigerians for granted as the nation eagerly await their farewell address come 2019.

‘Ekiti LG Polls Confirmation of PDP’s Popularity’

‘Ekiti LG Polls Confirmation of PDP’s Popularity’

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that its sweeping victory in the Ekiti state local council election is clear and firm evidence of its popularity not only in Ekiti State but also in the entire Southwest and the nation at large.

The Peoples Democratic Party won all the 16 local government chairmanship and 177 Councillorship seats in the local polls conducted in Ekiti State on Saturday.

Kayode Bamisile, chairman of the Ekiti State Independent Electoral Commission, said the elections were peaceful, free and fair

PDP National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, in a statement on Tuesday described the election as credible, free and fair, adding that “the landslide victory is a direct response by the people to the achievements of the Governor Ayo Fayose-led PDP government, in line with the ideology, vision and programmes of the party”.

Stating that the southwest region has always been its stronghold, the PDP further said that it has repositioned to retake the governorship of all its original states, particularly those in the southwest and the northern parts of the country while ultimately winning the Presidency and the majority in the National Assembly, come 2019.

The party said Nigerians have since seen through the deception and incompetence of the APC and are now very eager to kick out the ruling party at all levels of government.

The PDP thanked the people of Ekiti state for their unrelenting support and charged the newly elected officials to reciprocate the gesture by working hard to ensure that the people continued to enjoy the dividends of democracy as already consolidated by Governor Fayose.

It congratulated Governor Ayo Fayose over the victory and urged its members across the nation to redouble their efforts in mobilizing for future elections, particularly, the 2019 general elections.

PDP Threatens Splinter Group

PDP Threatens Splinter Group

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has sent a note of warning to members floating a splinter group, called Fresh People Democratic Party.

At a press conference today in Abuja, the PDP said the ruling party, the All Progressive Congress (APC) has a hand in fomenting trouble in the opposition party.

The party said “any person who for any selfish reason resort to the ignoble part of attempting to create disaffection and disunity in our party will be made to face the consequences of his or her actions as provided for in the constitution of our great party and extant laws of the land”

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, noted in a statement: “My colleagues, as you are aware, in spite of all challenges, the elective National Convention of our great party successfully held on December 9-10, 2017 and was internationally acknowledged as credible, free and fair.

It is no longer news that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), having failed to scuttle the convention, has been frazzled and unhappy as they have realized that the convention marks a new beginning in our sure and steady step to rescue our dear nation and her people from the misrule of the APC.

Recall that after our convention the APC attempted to inject disagreement and rancor among our members, particularly in the southwest, but also failed.

However, following certain concerns on the outcome of our convention, our conflict resolution mechanism began to address the issues that will engender continuous harmony in our fold.

Consequently, the National Reconciliation Committee led by the Governor of Bayelsa State, His Excellency, Governor Seriake Dickson, met with critical stakeholders and leaders of our party in Abuja, Ibadan and Lagos, where very fruitful discussions were held on issues particularly related to election into the office of the National Chairman were better resolved or collectively agreed upon.

Party members who contested for other positions from the National Secretary and below were duly informed that discussions on their concerns will hold in the second week of January, 2018 since the party would be proceeding for Yuletide and New Year festivities and would only resume on January 8, 2018.

Majority of our party members who contested for the said positions accepted the decision of the National Reconciliation Committee to reconvene on January 8, 2018 in good faith, and in the greater interest of our party.
It is however, strange, unacceptable and outside every known law and regulation that a group of individuals will come together and claim to have formed a splinter group of our great party and even attempt to use our colour, name and logo unauthorized.

It is therefore imperative to inform all our members that our party is one, indivisible and united PDP and that all organs of the party; the National Executive Committee (NEC), the Board of Trustees (BOT) as well as our state organs are all intact, thus foreclosing any basis for any form of factionalization whatsoever.

We urge any of our members who might feel strongly about the outcome of the generally accepted National Convention to explore the opportunities provided by the Governor Dickson’s Reconciliation Committee in line with the constitution of our great party.

Thereafter, any person who for any selfish reason resort to the ignoble part of attempting to create disaffection and disunity in our party will be made to face the consequences of his or her actions as provided for in the constitution of our great party and extant laws of the land.

A word, they say, is enough for the wise!

The PDP remains a highly responsible and law abiding party, with level playing ground for all to aspire for any position but on no account should we as members submit ourselves to the manipulations of the ruling party to be used as agents of destabilization.

Finally, the leadership of the PDP states firmly that we will not allow ourselves to be distracted because we have a task committed to us by Nigerians, which is to unseat the incompetent and corrupt APC, rescue the nation from their clutches and return our dear country to the path of prosperity and national unity”.

Nigerians Have Rejected APC, Says PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned the attack its just concluded National Convention by the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).

The PDP in a statement by its newly elected National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, said the APC was merely being ‘jittery and clutching on straws’ having been rejected by Nigerians who voted them in in 2015.

“Our attention has been drawn to a statement credited to the spokesman of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Malam Bolaji Abdulahi, wherein he criticized the conduct of the elective National Convention of our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“It is indeed laughable that the APC which has roundly failed in not only managing the affairs of the country but also its own internal issues would recourse to panic mode just because the PDP has succeeded in uniting its fronts by conducting of a very credible elective National Convention.

“We were very much aware of the plots by the APC to scuttle the convention and failing it has resorted to a failed attempt to discredit an elective convention that has been adjudged as creditable, novel and laudable by political stakeholders and lovers of democracy across the nation.

This unwarranted attack is only symptomatic of a party that has lost control and only clutching on straws for survival having been outrightly rejected by Nigerians.

“Is it not disgusting, reprehensible and embarrassing that the APC that has repeatedly failed to hold meetings, congresses and convention in the last three years and has flagrantly continued to violate its own constitution is questioning our party’s rights to perform her legitimate and constitutional obligation?

“Perhaps APC leaders have never read Article 25 (A)(i) of their party’s Constitution which stipulates that “the National Convention of the party  shall be held once in two years at a date, venue and time to be recommended by the National Working Committee (NWC) and approved by the National Executive Committee (NEC) subject to the giving of the statutory notices to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and at least 14 days notice given to members eligible to attend.”

“Which impunity could be higher than APC violating its constitution?  It is strange that APC could be moralizing on the principles of social justice whereas its actions against Nigerians are a complete departure from the norms.

“It is important for this spokesman of a failed party and his pack of incompetent members to reminisce on the needless pains and suffering they have inflicted on Nigerians rather than being jittery over the successful outcome of the PDP’s elective national convention.

“Nigerians have come to discover that All Progressive Congress is a fraud, an organization of deceitful characters who have failed to keep a single of its countless promises made to the citizens.

“It is no longer news that the nation is drifting under APC and the PDP has come to the rescue. We must therefore remind the APC that the era of deceit, trickery and scaremongering, which has been the hallmarks of their government, is gone and Nigerians are just waiting to kick them out come 2019”, the PDP said.
