Buhari Orders Reinstatement of Gov. Obiano’s Security Aides

Governor Willie Obiano’s complaint to President Muhammadu Buhari over the removal of his security details has paid off. Buhari, today in Awka ordered the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to restore Obiano’s security aides.

Anambra Governor, Obiano, who is facing a re-election challenge on Saturday had his security details removed on Tuesday. The IG of police did not think of restoring the governor’s aides until after the election on Saturday.

Idris had said the Governor’s aides would be restored after the governorship election on Saturday.

Femi Adesina, special adviser to the president on media and publicity said in a statement that Obiano complained directly to President Buhari about the withdrawal of his security aides and Buhari directed Joshak Habila, the Deputy Inspector General of police, to facilitate the reinstatement of Obiano’s aides.

At the All Progressive Congress (APC) campaign grand finale today in Awka, Obiano walked his way through to the President and begged for return of his security.

The IGP said the withdrawal was based on the previous experience whereby the military caught an ADC to a governor escorting a vehicle loaded with arms on election day.

Obiano had on Tuesday cried out that his life was in danger after his aides were withdrawn.

“This is unacceptable and a sign of what will happen. Those behind this would be disappointed because we are very ready for the election,” he had said.

The senate had earlier on Wednesday asked Idris to restore Obiano’s security aides.

Obiano’s contenders are Tony Nwoye of the APC, Oseloka Obaze of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Other candidates include Godwin Ezeemo of the Progressives People’s Alliance (PPA) and Osita Chidoka of the United Progressive Party (UPP).
