GAMBIA: Minister cautions against sex tourism, By Andrew Iro Okungbowa

Okungbowa (Contributing Editor, Nigeria) In Gambia, the Tourism Minister, Hamat Bah, has taken a hard look at the issue of tourists making Gambia a sex destination , which is gaining ground in the country, otherwise known as the Smiling Coast of Africa, against the practice, insisting that Gambia has no room for trade in sex by tourists.

“We are not a sex destination. If you want a sex destination, you go to Thailand. The Gambia is not a sex destination. We are not, and please every Gambian must sing that song. We cannot afford to see this country to really be brought to that level. We must protect and preserve this country,” said the minister during an interview session aired by a TV station in the country.

The Gambia is not a sex destination and it will never be, Bah maintained. He warned that any tourist caught ‘messing’ with Gambian minors, will be prosecuted as provided for by the country’s law.
