Obasanjo visits Jos, says Nigeria must find human solution to killings
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Wednesday paid condolence visit Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong in Jos over Saturday killings in parts of the state, saying that Nigeria must find human solution to the human crises.
He said there would always be a human solution to human problems.
Obasanjo conveyed the condolences of his family and his delegation and charged government at all levels to look for the causes of the killings.
“It is saddening in this day and age that this kind of barbaric thing is happening in our own country.
“I have suggested and I will still say it again that we need to find out the cause of these mindless killings even among age old neighbours.
“There must be a cause or causes, remote and immediate and we must deal with it.
“And if we must continue to multiply condolences upon condolences, we must look for the remote causes and deal with it.
“I believe this is a human problem and problems have human solutions, this is a human problem.
“I hope and plead that government at the federal level must collaborate with states, local governments and communities to find what are the causes so that we can deal with it,” Obasanjo said.
President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo had visited the troubled area earlier where they urged the people to embrace peace.
Three persons have been paraded in Jos on Wednesday, the Plateau State capital by the Special Military Task Force, “Operation Save Haven’’ in connection with the latest killings in Plateau state where about 200 persons where reportedly killed and over 50 buildings burnt.
The three men were said to have been arrested at Gashish District in the Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau.
But the STF did not give the names of the arrested suspects nor explain how only three suspects would have attacked the affected villages, killings a large number of persons and burning down over 50 houses.
The suspects were paraded in Jos alongside 14 others, who were arrested over the killings in which suspected herdsmen massacred over 86 people, mainly locals and farmers on June 24.
The 14 persons were arrested for what the military called recent “civil unrest” in the state.
