Mugabe concludes (1980-2017)

MUGABE BOWS, RESIGNS (1980-2017)

Finally, Robert Gabriel Mugabe has resigned. He has bowed to pressures from all fronts. It is really end of an era, from 1980 to 2017

The ruling party in Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe African National Union Progressive Front (ZANU-PF) announced this in its tweeter handle @ZANU-PF “R G Mugabe has resigned. The New Era has begun! Now the real work begins”.

This marks the end of 37-year rule and probably, the end to the Mugabe hegemony in Zimbabwe.

In 2008, Robert had said that it is only God who could remove him from power. Was it God that has just removed him?

In a letter of resignation, Mugabe wrote: “I Robert Gabriel Mugabe, in term with Section 96 of the Constitution, hereby formally tender my resignation with immediate effect”.

Mr Robert said that the decision was voluntary and that he had made it to allow a smooth transition of power.

The army chief, Gen Constantine Chiwenga who led military intervention in the Zimbabwean political crisis will be remembered as a political saviour after he led the military takeover in Zimbabwe, however, BBC reports that the army chief is under sanctions from the EU and the US for his role in a brutal crackdown on the opposition, and over the seizure of white-owned farms.

Zimbabwe Parliamentarians had begun the process to impeach 93-year-old long-time President after he refused to bulge to resignation.

Speaker Jacob Mudenda said the motion to impeach him was raised on Tuesday as thousands of protesters rallied outside parliament in Harare, demanding that Mugabe quit.

Parliamentarian, Temba Mliswa said he would resign his position if the House fails to remove him.

“If we fail to impeach the president through Parliament, I’ll step down as an MP for Norton Constituency. I see the failure as a betrayal to the people of Zimbabwe who have put their lives on line marching against Robert. This is about the people and it’s beyond political parties”

There have been protests and prayers since yesterday, and people calling on the Parliament to effect Mugabe’s impeachment.
