Namibia under grip of COVID-19: loses two more political heavyweights

Two senior officials of Namibia’s ruling party, Swapo, have died from complications linked to Covid-19.

Chief Samuel Ankama, 63, deputy minister in the office of the prime minister and Kilus Nguava passed away over the weekend.

In the last 10 days, nine national leaders have died from coronavirus.

They include:

The head of the Ovaherero genocide negotiations team Zedekia Ngavirue

Ovaherero Paramount Chief Advocate Vekuii Rukoro

Lt Gens John Mutwa and Lucas Hangula

Prof Mburumba Kerina

Gaob Eduardo Afrikaner

Former ministers Samuel Ankama and Chief Kilus Nguvauva

Ngarikutuke Tjiriange

On Saturday alone, Namibia’s health ministry recorded 1,656 new cases of coronavirus and it says 23 people died on that day of the virus.

The country now has a 46% positivity rate among new coronavirus test results
