Nigeria’s Davido Wins 2017 MTV EMA Best Act Worldwide

In the music front, it is a good year for Davido and a good year for Nigeria. It is equally a good year for Africa.

Barely 24 hours after he was announced the winner of Best African Act in the 2017 MTV EMA Awards, Nigerian born hip-hop musician, David Adeleke (Davido) has been named winner of Best Act Worldwide.

Announcing this on his twitter handle handle a while ago, Davido said he was getting mad over it.

“OMG I JUST WON BEST WORLDWIDE ACT MTV EMA!!! I’m going madd!!!!! 2 EMA’s !! Whaaat!!! !!”, Davido tweeted.

Canadian teen singer Shawn Mendes on Sunday won best artist and best song at the MTV Europe Music Awards (EMA) in London, pipping heavyweight competitors such as Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus and Ed Sheeran.

The awards ceremony at Wembley Arena, the first to be staged in the British capital in 20 years, were hosted by Rita Ora and featured performances by U2 and David Guetta.

Mendes, 19, who launched his career by posting song covers to the internet before getting signed to a record label, also scooped the “biggest fans” award.

He performed the track that won him best song — There’s Nothing Holding Me Back — in front of an electrified crowd in London.

The DMW boss this night edged out his biggest contender in Nigeria, Wizkid, and his South African counterpart, Nasty C, to coast home with the highly coveted award.

Immediately after the announcement, Davido hit his twitter page to make the grand announcement.

“I’m on Fiaaaaaaa!! Thank you everybody. This is for you mom! #30BG”, he said.

Other African acts who were in the same category include Babes Wodumo from South Africa, C4 Pedro from Angola and Nyashinki from Kenya.

Davido recently released a new hit single, produced by FRESH and accompanied by a befitting video titled “FIA” which quickly went viral and is slowly becoming a fan favourite.

The venue for this year’s award is the SSE Arena in Wembley, London with Rita Ora as the host of the ceremony.

Davido has lately been expressing emotions about his late mother, Mrs. Veronica Adeleke.
